African American Visual Artists Database The aim of the African American Visual Artists Database (AAVAD) is to establish a free public access record of the ongoing contribution of artists of African decent to the visual arts. Included are all artists of the African diaspora who have lived, worked, studied or exhibited in the USA, Canada, and the Caribbean. Artists are eligible when they have been actively and professionally engaged in the production of work of art for a period of at least 4 years and are at least 21 years old. As of November 2009, the AAVAD contains data on nearly 12,000 artists. The amount of biographical information is limited. More useful as a source of bibliographical data. |
